In the spring of 2017, Chulalongkorn University celebrated its 100 year anniversary with a special exposition that highlighted its innovation and global reach, providing the 2016-17 IID class to present its project in Bang Kasii community in Samut Prakan province to the larger Bangkok community, with a special visit by H.M. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Team members Laura Takenaka, Tipakson Manpati, Polwish Subsrisunjai, Khin Yadanar Oo and Zon Phyu Linn (led by Dr. Carl Middleton) presented their project at the Expo Symposium and also manned a special booth highlighting their semester's work. The project aimed to contribute towards innovation and inclusive development within the Bang Kasii community following a “design thinking” process. The theme of the mini project was: “Recycled Products.” Bringing together grade 4 and 5 students to work together with community leaders the team hoped to develop a knowledge base for future generations in the community, and build a working relationship with the MAIDS/IID program.
